A coordination meeting held Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, brought together senior officials and partners of Cameroon’s North-West Region to review and refine operational procedures for the Peace and Development Initiative, the region’s main post-crisis recovery program.
The session took place at the auditorium of the North-West Regional Assembly and was chaired by Prof. Fru Angwafo III, president of the Regional Executive Council.
Participants focused on improving oversight, coordination and efficiency in the rollout of the initiative across all seven administrative divisions of the region.
According to the Regional Assembly, the review aimed to address procedural gaps identified since the program’s launch and to ensure closer alignment between planning, execution and monitoring at the divisional level.
The Peace and Development Initiative was established in 2023 under a regional decision to support recovery, peacebuilding and social cohesion in communities affected by prolonged insecurity.
Attendees included members of the Regional Executive Council, divisional PDI coordinators, senior administrative and financial officials of the assembly, and representatives of partner institutions, including CAMCCUL and the PDI Technical Committee.
Discussions centered on streamlining approval processes, clarifying roles among implementing actors and strengthening internal control mechanisms.
Officials said the revised procedures are intended to support more consistent implementation as the program expands into its next phases.
The initiative relies on labor-intensive public works and cash-for-work schemes to engage young people in community projects while supporting household incomes and local infrastructure rehabilitation.
The Peace and Development Initiative, as described by the assembly, is a community-driven program rooted in participatory development approaches.
It combines peacebuilding activities with socioeconomic recovery efforts, targeting infrastructure, livelihoods and social cohesion across the North-West Region.
Regional authorities said the procedural adjustments adopted during the meeting would be circulated to divisional teams in the coming weeks, forming the basis for more coordinated execution as the program continues to scale.
