CRTV

The postponed 2020 African Nations Championship, CHAN, will be organised this time on January 16th – February 7th, 2021, though the tournament will still be tagged 2020 Total African Nations Championship.

This was announced during CAF Executive Committee on Thursday, September 10 ,2020 via video-conference to discuss the future of competitions and key matters related to the development of the game.

Due to the global Coronavirus, the CHAN initially slated for April 4th to 25th, 2020 will be organised in Cameroon from late January to early February.

The matches will be disputed in the cities of Yaounde, Douala and Limbe by locally based players of sixteen African nations.

As a consequence, the 7th edition that was supposed to take place in 2022 in Algeria will now be played in 2023.

Another glaring change in the tournament is the substitution formula, four (4) and not the usual three (3) substitutions will be allowed per team during the matches, applying to only games that will require extra time-during the knock-out stages.

In the meantime, the draw done in Cameroon late 2019 remains unchanged, the host, Cameroon will welcome Zimbabwe in the opening encounter at the Yaounde Onmisports Stadium.

*The Groups Matches*
Group A – Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe
Group B – Libya, DR. Congo, Congo, Niger
Group C – Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Togo
Group D – Zambia, Guinea, Namibia, Tanzania

Amongst the other important dates announced by the CAF Executives, the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will now be disputed in July 2022 in a yet to be announced host country.

The 2020 edition of the championship was cancelled due to the raving Coronavirus pandemic.

The U-17 AFCON to be hosted in the North African country of Morocco was rescheduled for March 13 – 31st at the request of the King.
